Mid-Life Health Crisis And How to Overcome it.

Middle age is a turning point in everyone’s life. This is the time when you have to decide, what now?  Where you are and what do you want from life?  According to experts, the middle age starts at the age f 40. But of course, it doesn’t mean that you wake up on your 40th birthday and the middle age starts. Yet you need to make lifestyle changes. At the age of 40 or 50, you are sandwiched between your children and parents. Apart from this, your office job, deadline to be met, commuting and preventable disease and our attitude. The best thing to do is take each day as it comes. Dealing with everyday health is the right place to start. The age between 30 and 60 is the period where the drop in physical activity leads to a dramatic drop in health.

Just move-Build an everyday exercise routine in your daily life.  20 minutes of walking, taking stairs instead of the lift,  Put hanging bar at the doorway are all you need to keep fit and healthy.

Try circuit training, football, running, aerobics, swimming, rugby, netball, yoga, the list is endless. The main aim is to keep moving. Remember 4 ‘S’. Stamina, strength, suppleness and, skill. Try to develop all this.

It is proved that a long time sitting in one place is hazardous to health. Sitting uses 1 calorie and standing 2 calories.  Of course, the office job doesn’t permit you to stand and work. The solution is, every 1-hour to walk or stand for 10 minutes.

Quit smoking immediately- Everyone knows that smoking is injurious to health. But you will be surprised to know that half of all long-term smokers die before their time. By quitting smoking you will benefit hugely. You live longer, you will have more energy, blood circulation will improve, you will look younger.

Don’t procrastinate for yearly health check-ups. As you grow older, your health may take back seat. You will start experiencing age-related problems. Visit your dentist, diabetologist (if you are diabetic), check your eyes, and overall health checkups.

Have a healthy diet. As we grow old we need to reduce the food which contains more spices and oil. Eat more fresh vegetables and fruits. Start each meal with a salad.

Never ignore heart health. It is reported that heart disease is the number one killer of women and men. Try to be calm and cool about every situation in your life. There is no point in having stress in everything and every situation.

One of the biggest mistakes women make during this period is thinking they have to learn to live with menopausal symptoms.  Men also face menopausal symptoms but somehow they cope with that in a very subtle manner. Accept that this is a part of life and nothing will stop you from your day-to-day activities.

Loneliness is another feature of middle age.  Be social, try to make new friends, and generally be positive and enthusiastic in learning new things. Keep the mind and body in a fit condition.

Never start losing your sense of purpose. Life is too beautiful to waste it on mundane things and thoughts. Cultivate some hobbies which will keep your joy and also keep you occupied. Nothing is impossible if you decide to live your life to the fullest.

Take adequate rest. Physical activities are important, in the same measure rest is also important. Get enough undisturbed sleep.

A positive attitude, faith in yourself and your creator(almighty), having wonderful family and friends, loving bond with everyone you come across is the way you lead your life. This is a healthy and rich way of living.  Each phase of life is important and beautiful. Childhood, Adulthood, Middle age, old age. The difference is the way you make it work for you. Enjoy each phase of life and continue doing what you like doing.
