Self-care- The New Mantra.
‘Health is Wealth’ is an old adage. According to the Pew Research Center, in recent times, more millennials make personal improvement commitments than any generation before them. The new generation bogged down by stress, tension and, lifestyle disorders, is making self-care their top priorities. Now, self-care is the new empowerment. Gone are the days when you force yourself to drag to parlor or spa or even simple walking. Today self-care is the new discipline.
Today people have understood the importance of staying healthy. They have learned to balance their work and personal commitments. Malti Bhojwani, a life coach says that the most difficult person to deal with in our lives is ourselves. It requires resilience- the ability to bounce back…. and the way to build resilience is through committed self-care. Today people believe that caring for oneself is not self-indulgence but self-preservation. It’s taking care of physical and emotional well-being.
These days, people are working more hours and surviving in a world full of gadgets, where their attention is at once demanded in several directions. Psychological and mental problems have increased tremendously. We have to learn a better method of coping mechanisms. ”Self-care is a continuous process of reflecting on your needs and investing in yourself to be the best version of yourself.” Says Shainna Ali, author of self-love workbook.
Self-care is important because if you are not in a healthy, secure, happy and, safe place yourself, there is no point in thinking not making an impact on others. Self-care should be a thought that you want to be at your best to make a difference to your own life and to people around you. The self-care motto should be a life-long commitment and this comes with patients, practice, and perseverance.
Healthy habits, good but simple living, 7 to 8 hours of sleep, working hard towards your goal, and exercise for at least 45 minutes a day for five days are some of the self-care ingredients for a better and happy life.
